REDUCE YOUR BILLS BEFORE SUMMER!

With the Energy prices increasing and the warmer months close by, there’s never been a better time to look at how Solar can help produce your household running costs.

Here at KDEC Electrical & Solar, we see firsthand how switching to solar power can make a real difference for local families and businesses – not just for the environment but for your pockets too.

1. Reduce your Power Bills 💰
When your solar system generates electricity during the day, you use less from the grid which in simple terms just means that the less power you buy the more you save and who doesn’t love extra money in their pockets!

2. Get paid for what you don’t use 👍🏼
Any excess power that your system produces is sent back to the grid, which will earn you a feed-in tariff from your energy retailer.
Note: Now is a great time to get in contact with your retailer and see if they can offer you a better plan or even better use a website like https://wattever.com.au to compare the best plans out there.

3. Protect yourself from rising energy costs ☀️
Electricity prices just keep going up, but solar gives you control.
Once installed, the energy from your panels is free which helps you offset future price increases and gives you more predictable bills.

4. Add a battery for even bigger savings 🔋
Pairing solar with a home battery lets you store extra power for night-time use or even during blackouts. It’s a smart long term investment in both comfort and energy independence.

💡 Pro Tip:
If you already have solar, spring is the perfect time to book a solar performance check before the summer heat arrives. A quick inspection and clean can help ensure your system is operating at maximum efficiency.

5 Benefits of Solar Energy Systems for Homes and Business

Solar power systems have been regarded as an ideal energy solution for both residential and commercial properties due to the number of benefits they provide.

Electric hot water unit vs Heat Pump?

Electric storage hot water tanks have been around for decades and are as simple as they come. While it is true they are nowhere near as efficient as a decent heat pump, we are able to counter the inefficiencies with a larger PV system for a similar cost and enjoy the same recovery rate across the year, keeping everyone happy.

Spring is in the air

Spring is almost here! 🌞 🌱

And that means longer days, warmer weather and the perfect time to get your solar system ready for peak performance!

A spring clean doesn’t have to just mean your cupboards, why not spring clean your solar system? Take a little extra care now, and that will make a big difference to how much energy you can generate, and money you can save as we begin to head into summer!

Watch out for growing shade

Spring means life, which can mean that your trees and gardens are bursting with new growth and sometimes this can cast shadows over your panels. Even the smallest of branch or a build-up of leaves can impact performance, so take a look and remove any overgrowth.

Give your panels a clean

Winter rain and dust can leave a film of dirt over your panels, which will reduce efficiency. A light clean (by a professional) will help your panels capture as much of the beautiful spring sunshine as possible!

Make the most of daylight hours

Taking advantage of the longer days doesn’t just mean that you can walk the dog at 8pm, but you can run your energy hungry appliances (washing machines dish washer, pool pumps) during longer daylight hours. This way, instead of pulling power from the grid it is being generated from your solar.

Tip* Putting your appliances on delayed start/timers is also a fantastic way to help utilise your solar power generation.

Consider a solar battery

Spring is the perfect time to think about adding on that battery you have been thinking about as electricity bills continue to creep up! A battery will allow you to store excess solar energy during the day, for you to use at night which will further reduce your electricity bills.  And, keep in mind the amazing new battery rebates that will decrease in 2026.

Solar for rental properties

Let’s talk benefits for your investment

If you’re a landlord wondering whether solar is worth the investment for your rental properties, you’re not alone.

Let’s explore the benefits to see if it’s the right fit for you:

Increase Property Appeal and Value

Solar equipped homes stand out to tenants looking for energy efficient properties that help lower their power bills. Installing solar can also boost your property’s resale value, making it a smart long-term investment.

Solar Victoria Rebate

Landlords in Victoria may be eligible for financial incentives through Solar Victoria, including rebates of up to $1,400 on a solar PV system for up to two rental properties per financial year. You can also take advantage of an interest-free loan to help cover installation costs.
More information: https://www.solar.vic.gov.au/solar-rebates-rental-properties

Reduced Tenant Turnover

Tenants appreciate the savings on their energy bills that come with solar. By making your property more affordable to heat and cool, you improve tenant satisfaction, reduce vacancy rates, and encourage long-term leases — creating a more stable rental income.

Tax Deductions

Solar is considered a depreciable asset, so you may be eligible to claim tax deductions on its installation. Be sure to consult your accountant to understand the specifics and maximize your tax benefits.

Lower Carbon Footprint

More Australians are looking to reduce their environmental impact — including renters. Nearly one-third of Australian households are rentals, and solar can make your property more sustainable and future-proof for environmentally conscious tenants.

Considering Solar for Your Investment Property?

If you’d like a tailored solar quote for your rental property, our experienced team at KDEC is here to help. We’ll design a solar system that maximizes savings for both you and your tenants, ensuring you get the most value from your investment.

Rain or Shine: Solar Still Saves

When you think of Solar, you usually picture blue skies and sunny days.
So, what happens in the winter when it’s cloudy and rainy, and does it even work?

Short answer, 100% yes!

But how?

Solar Panels don’t need direct sunlight to generate electricity, they just need light.
Even on those nasty overcast days, your panels can still generating energy – how cool is that!

Rain or Shine, your Solar PV system is still going to reduce your electricity bill.

When you have your initial consultation with one of our Solar Specialists, they will ask for an electricity bill so that we can size your system according to your home or business’s conditions, usage and budget.  But we always recommend quality products that stand the test of time.

Why not add on a battery?

Pairing your Solar PV system with battery storage, means that you can store excess power generated during those daylight hours and use it when the weather turns, or the sun goes down. With the current government rebates, batteries are now more affordable than ever!

Believe it or not… the rain is actually good for your panels! The rain will wash away dirt and debris off your panels, which in turn will help with the efficiency of your panels.

Clean panels = better performance.

Whether it’s sunny, cloudy, or pouring rain, your solar system is still working for you—and your wallet.

YOUR TOP 5 SOLAR QUESTIONS

Top 5 Questions we get about Solar – Answered!

1. Does solar work when it’s cloudy or raining?
Yes! Solar panels generate electricity from diffused light, not just direct sunlight. Even on overcast days, your system continues to produce power, contributing to your energy savings year-round.

2.  What happens at night?
At night, your solar panels aren’t generating power. However, if you have a battery storage system, you can store excess energy produced during the day and use it during the evening, reducing reliance on the grid.

3. How much am I actually going to save?
Savings are based on your energy usage, the orientation of your roof and the local electricity rates. Most homeowners will see savings from 30 – 70% on their electricity bills. Adding on a battery can also increase these savings by allowing you to use stored energy during peak times.

4. Do I need to service my solar system regularly?
Yes, we recommend having your system professionally serviced every 18–24 months to ensure it’s running safely and efficiently. Regular servicing can help catch potential issues early and keep your system performing at its best.

Want a reminder? Just let us know and we’ll add you to our service database—our team will get in touch when it’s time for a check-up. Easy!

5. Is my roof suitable for solar?
Every home is unique, so we assess your roof individually to ensure it’s the right fit for solar. The ideal conditions for maximum efficiency include:

  • North-facing roof
  • Minimal shading from trees, chimneys, or other obstructions
  • Good structural integrity to support the panels

Our sales consultant will look at your roof as a part of your initial meeting, and will provide tailored recommendations based on your specific roof and energy needs.

KDECs’ Top 5 Solar Maintenance Tips Before Winter Really Hits!

It’s definitely getting a cooler lately, and winter is upon us, so now is the perfect time to give your solar a little TLC.

Whilst solar panels are generally low-maintenance, here are a few quick checks you can do to keep your system performing its best through this winter period.

1.   Give your panels a clean
Dust, bird droppings, lichen and autumn leaves can reduce panel efficiency. A light clean with a soft brush or hose (avoid high pressure) can help maximise your output. If you’re not keen on climbing a roof, leave it to the professionals—it’s quick, safe, and effective. KDEC can recommend a local business!

2.   Trim overhanging trees
With the sun sitting lower in the sky during the long winter months, shading becomes a bigger issue. Trim any trees or branches that might block sunlight, especially in the morning and late afternoon.

3.   Check your inverter display
Take a peek at your inverter. Any red lights or error messages? If something looks off or you’re unsure, give us a call—we’re happy to help you decode it.

4.   Review your Monitoring app
Winter’s a great time to get reacquainted with your monitoring system. Are you seeing a drop in performance? It might not just be the weather—your system could need a tune-up.

5.   Book in a Solar System Health check with KDEC
If it’s been a couple of years since your last check-up, consider a professional inspection. We’ll make sure everything’s running smoothly and spot any potential issues before they become costly.
