Electric hot water unit vs Heat Pump?
Electric storage hot water tanks have been around for decades and are as simple as they come. While it is true they are nowhere near as efficient as a decent heat pump, we are able to counter the inefficiencies with a larger PV system for a similar cost and enjoy the same recovery rate across the year, keeping everyone happy.

Does an EV make sense? It certainly does for us!
We bought a Tesla model 3 for our fleet in September 2023. It is the first Electric Vehicle (EV) we have owned and I thought it would be a good chance to look at the savings we have experienced now that it has done a little over 10,000km.
Why Battery Quality Matters: Not All Home Batteries Are Created Equal
Batteries aren’t just a “bolt-on” to your solar system. They’re the engine room of your energy independence. Cheaper batteries often compromise on components, software, warranty, and long-term reliability. Investing in quality means fewer issues, better performance, and long-term savings.

Let’s talk NSW Battery Rebates
I’d like to discuss solar and be more sustainable
The NSW Battery Rebate is HERE!
What You Need to Know…
Since November 2024, NSW has been offering incentives for eligible batteries under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS).
The Peak Demand Reduction Scheme is designed to reduce electricity consumption during periods of high demand.
What is the PDRS?
The Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) technically isn’t a rebate in the traditional sense. It’s not a direct payment to you as a customer. Instead, it’s a discount on the cost of installing a battery, and the amount you receive depends on the capacity of the battery.
As your installer, we will claim the rebate on your behalf and apply the discount to your quote. To be eligible, you must:
- Have solar installed on the premises before any battery is installed, or alongside a Solar PV system.
- Not have an existing battery installed.
- Be connected to the grid (off-grid systems are not eligible).
- Be a residential customer (businesses are not eligible)
- Use an accredited installer (That’s us!)
Why Should You Claim This?
The PDRS can make it more affordable to install a battery and help you maximize the benefits of your Solar PV system. The battery will store your solar energy, allowing you to use it during times of high demand instead of relying on grid electricity.
What is the Rebate Worth?
The rebate applies to eligible batteries with a capacity between 2 kWh and 28 kWh. If the battery exceeds 28 kWh, you will not be eligible for the rebate.
For example, a Tesla Powerwall 3 13.5 kWh battery qualifies for 1,088 PRCs at a rate of $2 per PRC, providing a base rebate of $2,176.Want to see what Batteries are eligible? ↓ ↓

Let talk Solar Rebates (VIC)
I’d like to discuss solar and be more sustainable
Are you (or someone you know) eligible for the Victorian Solar Power Rebate?
The Solar Victoria’s Rebate is a part of the Victorian government’s efforts to make solar more affordable to homeowners and encourage the use of renewable energy.
What is the Solar Homes Program?
Put simply, it offers eligible Victorian households rebates and interest free loans for installing batteries, panels, heat pumps or solar hot water systems which will help more Victorians save with solar.
Eligible households can apply for a:
· Solar PV Rebate: up to $1,400 for eligible homeowners who install a solar PV system
· Hot water rebate: A rebate of up to $1,000 to install solar hot water or heat pumps
· Solar Battery Loan: Interest free loan of up to $8,800 for the installation of a solar battery
How do you know if you are eligible?
You need to meet certain requirements to qualify for the Solar Victoria Rebate
- you are the owner-occupier of an existing property or the owner of a home under construction where the system is to be installed
- combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year
- value of the property is under $3 million (for an existing home or when construction is complete)
- property address has not previously received a solar panel (PV) or solar battery rebate under this program
- the property address has not had a solar panel (PV) system installed in the last 10 years*
- you received a Solar Homes rebate and/or loan but have moved house. You can apply for another incentive at your new address as an owner-occupier if the property has not received these rebates before.
The best way to determine your eligibility and get more information is to give us a call at 02 6021 6033 or email us at kdec@kdec.com.au
We’ll be happy to schedule an appointment with one of our solar experts.
