How to Operate your CatchPower Green Hot Water Diverter

  • 0:02
Here we are at the CatchPower Catch Green Hot Water Diverter, where I'm going to run you through the settings available and the lights that you'll see.
  • 0:11
Obviously, the CatchPower is there to utilise excess solar power, rather than sending you to the grid to send it to your hot water unit to heat your hot water through the power of the sun at a very minimal cost.
  • 0:29
The lights that we'll see, just the power button, obviously, that'll be on when the unit has power to it. The diverting light, that will flash when there is excess solar power available and it's sending power to your hot water.
  • 0:43
As more power is available, the rate of that flash will increase until a point where it gets solid when it's sending all the power it can to your hot water.
  • 0:54
Now, the settings available: Solar only, boost two and a half, boost five, and heat now. If we choose solar only, here we go. Solar only solid will mean that the unit only uses energy from the sun, excess solar, to heat your hot water.
  • 1:18
Except in the event that your unit doesn't reach temperature during the day, it will choose to heat at off-peak rates for two and a half hours, up to two and a half hours, until your unit does reach temperature.
  • 1:34
If, however, you choose not to want to draw any power from the grid, a second press, so the light is flashing, will mean that you're only drawing from your excess solar, never from the grid.
  • 1:48
If you have a higher hot water usage in the evening or a larger family, you may wish to choose a boost option.
  • 1:59
Boost two and a half hours, in the flashing mode I'll talk about first, means that your unit will work as solar only did and use excess solar during the day, but then also in the evening, again at off-peak times, will try and heat your hot water again for a maximum of two and a half hours until your hot water reaches temperature.
  • 2:28
Under the two and a half hours, the unit is smart enough to adjust for the length of daylight hours available really, so seasonally.
  • 2:39
And if your hot water heats before 11 o'clock in the morning, it'll actually reduce that two and a half hour heat during the evening down by about 12%, until a point where it realises that there's so much power available.
  • 2:54
Your hot water usage isn't high, that it will reduce and stop that overnight heat. Likewise, as the daylight hours reduce, or if we have continual poor weather, it'll increase that overnight heat back up to two and a half.
  • 3:12
If you don't want that time to change and you want two and a half hours every night, then another press to a solid light will ensure this. The five hour boost is almost exactly the same.
  • 3:27
The only difference, obviously, is as the name suggests, it heats for up to five hours overnight at off-peak nights. The heat now is effectively a boost.
  • 3:40
If you have a whole family there and you've run out of hot water, you can choose to heat your hot water as soon as you press it, and it will draw straight from the grid to heat your hot water until it reaches temperature, and then it will switch back over to whatever option you had previously.
  • 4:02
If you want that to stay heat now, so it will just constantly heat your water as soon as you need it, a flashing light will achieve this, though I can't imagine a a need for this at any point.
  • 4:20
Obviously, we want to achieve the most use of the excess solar that we can, so the more we heat overnight, the less you'll need to heat your hot water during the day.
  • 4:34
So solar only, or a boost now with an adjusting two and a half hour boost are generally the options that we recommend to maximise the savings and achieve the best result out of your catch.
  • 4:50
But obviously, if you want to discuss any of this, give us a call and we can talk you through any of these options.
  • 4:57
But that's it, there it is. The CatchPower Hot Water Diverter. I hope that sheds some light.

In this video, a member of the KDEC team will demonstrate how to properly operate your CatchPower Green Hot Water Diverter.

Knowing how to correctly use this device allows you to make the most out of the excess solar energy generated by your home’s solar power system by using it to heat water. When solar panels produce more electricity than your home needs, the excess energy can be used to heat water in a hot water tank, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering your monthly utility bills.

To learn how to properly use the CatchPower Green Hot Water Diverter, watch this quick and easy-to-follow instructional video. Through this guide, you’ll be able to optimise your home’s solar energy usage.
