We were excited to announce Random Acts of Kindness was back in 2017 with Hit104.9 Riley-Rose & Seamus!
In 2016 we got on board with 104.9 Star FMs Riley-Rose Harper to help surprise locals with Random Acts of Kindness.To date we have surprised 8 year Ryleigh Franz who has an aggressive brain tumour with birthday gifts and cake, Teisha with flowers and a night out including new outfit & hair-do and care packages for homeless people on the Border.
We also paid for groceries for some lucky locals! Who could be next?
Kdec Community Cashback
Prior to RAK we were running a fantastic Solar Promotion…The Kdec Community Cashback initiative.
With support of 105.7 The River Community Radio Station, we asked not for profit and charity organisations to register their interest, each month we picked one community group to receive donations of $50 per kW for every system sold in that month. Thats right, if you bought a 5kW system – we donated $250 to that months beneficiary.
We managed to donate a whopping total of $39,136 over those 22 months…plus a solar system to a local family.
February 2014 we kicked off our first month by donating $1000 to the Murray Valley Centre in Wodonga. They have used this money towards a new bus to transport clients around the area. The Murray Valley centre are a very worthy recipient.
March’s donation of $1350 went to Country Hope towards Medical Emergency (Crisis) Fund to assist local families to be with their children when they are facing a critical medical emergency and being ambulanced to the Royal Children’s Hospital. These funds can help them to ensure that the family is able to stay together is such uncertain times. It may include emergency travel, accommodation and supplies.
In April, we donated $2450 to Aspect Riverina School. The Aspect schools provide specialist learning services to kids within the Autism spectrum. They hope to use the money towards installation of electronic and interactive white boards in their classrooms.
In May, we donated $1300 to the Howlong Football and Netball Club. This was a great way to show our appreciation to the Howlong community after completing several solar installations in the town over the last few months. Howlong footy club wish to use this money to complete the installation of their new scoreboard.
Give Me 5 For Kids was our fantastic June charity. $1350 went towards our Albury Wodonga Health Childrens Ward helping out our local sick/injured kids and their families.
We felt privileged to donate $2125 in July to Hey Ladies Albury annual ladies lunch which fundraises for our all important McGrath Foundation Breast Care nurses in Albury-Wodonga. Sadly breast cancer effects so many lives and we hope our donation makes a difference in someone’s life. This years guest speaker was the amazing & inspiring Turia Pitt.
Faith Hope & Dreams received $1525 in August to assist families in our local area who have children with disabilities. We know this money will go to good use.
It was the luck of the Irish in September with GT Shamrocks Swimming Club being donated $1775 towards their trailer to carry their sun shades during their Summer competition season.
Bubbly Charity was our charity of choice in October with $1800 going to the late Kellie Milne Wall’s family. After meeting Kellie’s husband Russell we know this money will be well received by him and his 4 children after recently loosing their wife/mother to a rare lymphoma in June.
November’s donation went to the local Salvation Army just in time for the busy Christmas period. The $1946 went towards essentials for Albury-Wodonga’s needy. We hope this gave some people a little comfort during the festive season.
Carevan Foundation happily received $1695 from December’s solar installs. Janaury can be a tricky period for donations for Carevan, so we loved helping them out! They do an amazing job providing thousands of meals to the homeless and disadvantaged each year.
Our 12th Cash back and first for 2015 went to our fury friends – cats and dogs. Local Delta Dog Therapy received $800. We have sponsored “Molly” who will provide welcome visits to the sick and elderly at Southern Cross Lavington Apartments throughout the year. Albury Cat Rescue received $800 which will pay for vet bills, feeding and re-housing local cats and kittens.
The 2nd Albury Wodonga Big Splash event received $1130 to raise awareness for mental health. They support Albury Wodonga Headspace and Survivors of Suicide Albury-Wodonga. The Big Splash is scheduled annually for the first Wednesday in March with a program that comprises a series of swimming relay races designed to bring people together for some fun, entertainment and competition.
In March we heard the sad news of Jindera’s little Archie Mahon, who at 19 months old was diagnosed with a rare cancer. We felt compelled to help where we could and donated $1132 towards Archies Story. We are following Archie’s progress and wish him and his family all the very best.
April’s $1620 Cash Back went Centre Against Violence who offer counselling and crisis support to local children and adults who have experienced sexual assault and family violence. These funds went towards women and children who are in these horrific situations.
We proudly kicked off “$25K in 25 hours” for 105.7 The Rivers Give me 5 for Kids with a $1125 donation for May.
Kdec contributed towards Albury Wodonga Regional Foodshare for June’s cash back. The $1463 donation is estimated to produce $49,000 worth of food (14,212 meals!) for those in need in the Border Community. What a fantastic cause.
Hey Ladies Albury had another successful luncheon which saw us donate $3025 to our local McGrath Foundation Breast Care nurses. The hilarious Jean Kitson entertained 250+ ladies while rasing over $10,000 for the day. Congratulations to all those concerned.
A very happy Magpies Hockey Club president accepted a $2515 cheque in August 2015 which will purchase essential protective equipment for all junior players in the club. We know sporting groups play such a vital and positive role in our communities, bringing people together to better their mental and physical state. Go Magpies!
The local Scammell family have been through tough times with their son being hospitalised for 160+ days in Melbourne since suffering ongoing life threatening complications since a routine surgery. Ben has undergone over 18 surgeries since and requires full time parental care, also due to the fact he has Down’s Syndrome. We were honoured to offer them $1675 for the September Cash Back and wish Ben a full recovery.
In October we gave Aware Industries $1935 to bring our running tally to $35,536 donated to date! They plan to use the funds towards a new garden area at the Wodonga office for staff to work in and enjoy. The 115 staff will gain relaxation, responsibility and skill development working in/on the garden. We cant wait to see the finished product.
The Special Olympics (Ovens & Murray) who support sporting opportunities for people with an intellectual disability received $1525 in November 2015. The money will financial assist athletes to travel to events with expenses and uniforms. A great deal of the athletes are on disability support pensions so we know the help will be appreciated.
To finish off 2015 The Border Medical Oncology Research Unit accepted $2075 to purchase 2 laptops and printers to record critical data from patients for cancer clinical trials, freeing up more time to recruit more patients to cancer clinical trials. We are extremely lucky to have such a facility so close to home, the work they are doing is invaluable.
So whats in it for you? Not only will you be saving money on your electricity bills but you will help contribute money to people who need it the most. What can be more community minded than that? Locals supporting Locals in 2014 and beyond….
There has never been a better time to go Solar…. with government incentives and the lowest cost we have ever seen on solar products…
