Solar and Battery Rebates

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

Save approximately 30% on Solar Batteries

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is a new $2.3 billion federal initiative that could reduce the upfront cost of a solar battery system by approximately 30%.

For example, if you install a 13.5kWh battery, you could be eligible for a rebate of approximately $4,500*, a substantial saving that makes battery storage more accessible than ever.

Another great thing about this program is it’s not just for homeowners, it also supports small businesses and community facilities looking to take control of their energy use and cut down on rising electricity costs. Plus, by getting a bigger battery, you’ll be able to enjoy a larger rebate amount.

With over 4 million rooftop solar systems already installed nationwide, this program is a game-changer ready to take the next step toward energy independence.

*Final rebate amount depends on system size, applicable BSTCs (Battery Small-scale Technology Certificates), and other eligibility criteria.

Claiming Solar Panel Rebates

Eligible solar panel installations may attract rebates using the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) by supporting solar and battery uptake by awarding Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) for eligible systems. Each STC represents 1 megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity generated or displaced.

STCs help meet national renewable targets and lower the cost of systems, making solar and battery solutions more affordable.

The number of STCs you receive depends on:

Battery Storage

From 1 July 2025, Cheaper Homes Battery Program takes effect, households and small businesses are eligible for around a 30% discount on the upfront cost of installing small-scale battery systems. The discount will be based on the solar battery’s usable capacity and will gradually decrease until 2030.

The Australian Government will fully fund the discount for solar batteries by purchasing small-scale technology certificates (STCs). This means no costs will be passed on to householders through energy retailers.

Household batteries will assist in balancing electricity supply and demand across the whole grid. This should reduce costs to all households over time.

Solar Rebates by State

Take advantage of state-based rebates to lower your upfront costs.

Victoria Rebates

Solar Panel Rebates

Victorian homeowners can take advantage of the Solar Victoria rebate program of up to $1400 for the installation of a solar panel system if they haven’t claimed the rebate before. These rebates are offered to Victorian’s with existing homes or homes under construction. There are also rebates for rental properties. Rebates are released each month according to the program schedule. There are stipulations to be eligible for the rebate, check Solar Victoria requirements and apply via their website.

Interest Free loans

When applying for this rebate you will be offered an interest free loan of up to $1400 in your application. If you opt in for the loan, you will repay the loan directly to your solar retailer over 4 years.

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is a $2.3 billion federal initiative aimed at helping homeowners, small business owners, and community facilities country wide achieve energy independence and cut their energy spending.

Below are the program’s highlights:

Although over 4 million households in Australia have solar PV systems, only 1 in 40 homes have solar batteries. This program aims to make solar battery installation and lower energy bills more accessible.

New South Wales Rebates

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which is a $2.3 billion federal initiative, aims to support Australia’s community facilities, small businesses, and homeowners by reducing energy costs and boosting their energy independence.

Key program features include:

While more than 4 million Australian homes have rooftop solar panels, only 1 in 40 use battery storage. This initiative seeks to increase accessibility to battery technology and help reduce household electricity expenses.

Battery Incentives

Starting in July 2025, NSW households can access larger incentives of up to $1,500 by connecting their solar batteries to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) through the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme, a program that aims to reduce peak electricity demand in the state. These incentives can be claimed through an energy retailer after connecting to a VPP.

They’ll also be able to enjoy bigger discounts on solar battery installation costs thanks to the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

Solar System Information

How solar powered energy works

KDEC_Net-Metering

1

Solar Panels

Well placed solar panels capture sunlight and turn it into a direct current (DC).

2

Solar Inverter

A solar inverter then converts a DC into an alternating current (AC). The AC is what powers your home in real time.

3

Solar Battery

If you choose to install a solar battery, excess energy is stored rather than always pushing it out to the grid.

4

Digital Meter

A device that allows you to monitor energy habits and track your energy use.

5

Power Grid

Any excess energy that solar panels generate is pushed out to the grid. This energy is measured and calculated to credit your account. You can also draw energy from the grid when and as you need it.
